Background for all Participants:
The following is a list of the minimal background material expected of students applying for the MCTP program (funded or not): one variable Differential and Integral Calculus and Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations.
Preferred background, in addition to the minimal background requirements above, includes some or all of the following courses: numerical analysis, advanced calculus (or an introduction to proofs),and undergraduate complex analysis.
Please take this list of material as a guideline only: in particular this program provides an ideal opportunity for those with a strong pure mathematics background to learn some computational and applied mathematical techniques and vice versa. - Must be a citizen or a permanent resident.
- Must be a full time undergraduate student as of May 2009 or be already accepted as a graduate student in Mathematics or Statistics at UNM starting on Fall 2008.
- Devote full time to the program and may not engage in other course work or employment during their five weeks on the UNM campus.
- Must have the minimal background expected for all participants.
Minorities and women are specially encouraged to apply for funding.
Selection Criteria:
To be selected as a participant in the Summer Workshop (with or without funding) the candidate must fill in an application form and submit: a letter of intent, two recommendation letters, and transcripts. Deadline for submission of all supporting materials: April 7, 2009.
