Event Description:

Title:

Compatible discretization with meshless methods

Abstract:
Meshless discretizations are a useful tool for many applications due to their ability to easily handle deforming geometries and Lagrangian schemes. In many cases however they lag behind their mesh-based counterparts when considering accuracy and stability. This may be attributed to the fact that the mesh in mesh-based schemes allows analysis of these methods in terms of a discrete exterior calculus, which is unavailable in the meshless case. In this talk we present several new meshless methods that allow compatible, high-order discretization of div-grad, curl-curl, and grad-div problems. We then demonstrate how these discretizations may be combined to tackle problems in low Reynolds number suspension flows, electrokinetics, elasticity and electromagnetics.
