Event Description:

Statistical literacy: What do future senators, scientists, social workers, and sales clerks need to learn from your statistics class?

Statistical literacy is the ability to understand statistics and is necessary for all citizens if they are to understand much of the information they confront every day. To be statistically literate numeracy is required, but also the ability to critically evaluate statistical material and to appreciate the relevance of statistically-based approaches to all aspects of life in general. In this talk, I'll illustrate a selection of the top 10 important topics for statistical literacy and argue how the HED General Education Competencies are misaligned to meet the needs of more than 90% of our Introductory Statistics students.
