The faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics receives funding from a variety of agencies and organizations. Currently the faculty is working on grants funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Sandia National Labs, the Air Force Research Lab, the National Security Agency and the University of Puerto Rico. The funding for these grants generates well over a million dollars. Such a broad range of agencies requires an equally broad range of talents and interests.
The faculty members are involved with grants as principal investigators and as consultants to other departments where their expertise is required to fulfill a specific need on a team of researchers. While the faculty is the primary beneficiary of the funding, their experience and contacts are invaluable to graduate and undergraduate students studying Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico.
