The Use of Mathematics Specific Technology in Capstone Mathematics Teacher
   Preparation Courses

We describe how the computer algebra system MAPLE is used in two capstone
mathematics courses taken by students who are preparing to teach mathematics at
the middle school or high school level. Both courses use materials developed by
the author and have been taken by over 300 students.

Our philosophy is simple: Mathematics is the focus, technology is a tool.  We
will share what we have learned in the development and conduct of these
courses.  We will provide examples of the course materials and we will discuss
issues involving student achievement and assessment.
