Please find below the instructions to reach Euroforum (Infantes building) conference Centre. [NOTE: The phone number there is: (+34) 91 896 70 00 Emergencies only (Eugenio Roanes' cellular phone): (+34) 607 92 70 13] There will be a free direct coach shuttle service from the airport to the conference centre as described below. There will be another service from Euroforum to the airport on the 27th and morning of the 28th. It will be impossible to provide transportation at extreme hours, i.e. this is not a compromise to pick you up at the airport, but the trips of the coaches will be scheduled in order to transport as many attendees as possible. June 24th: departures at 10:30, 13:30, 16:15, 20:00 June 25th: NO SERVICE We have not decided yet the exact meeting point, but it is expected to be at "Arrivals" in the Intl.Terminal. Timetables for the shuttle from Euroforum to Barajas Airport and Madrid downtown will be scheduled at Euroforum. _________________________________________________________________________ Information about how to reach the conference centre by public transportation is included below (and by car at the end of this text): To reach El Escorial from Barajas airport take any way of transportation to Madrid downtown and there, depending on your preferences, transfer to rail or coach following the instructions stated under the appropriate sections below. We recommend to take the Special Service to Colon and then the train from Recoletos railway station. _________________________________________________________________________ Taking the underground from Barajas to Madrid: The Barajas airport underground station will be opened on June 14th. A single ticket costs 130 pts and is valid for as many journeys as you are able to do without exiting the underground network; this mean you can transfer to any of the lines with the same ticket (keep it untill the end of your trip!). A map guide for Madrid Underground network may be found at the following sites: http://malika.iem.csic.es/~grant/metro.html http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/robert_sch/madrid.htm _________________________________________________________________________ Taking a taxi from Barajas airport to Madrid: Within the city, and including the airport, the fare is that indicated on the meter, plus the authorized surcharges which are displayed on the right hand side of the vehicle's rear window: * Initial fare: 180 pts * Surcharge for the airport: 350 pts * Surcharge for bus&railway st.: 150 pts * Surcharge for public holidays (6:00am-11:00pm): 150 pts * Surcharge for night service (11:00pm-6:00am): 150 pts * For each suitcase: 50 pts In normal traffic conditions, the meter reading from Barajas airport to Madrid downtown should be about 2200 pts. Ask for rail or coach stations better than addreses; this will make your transfers easier and more comfortable. A recommendation: Ensure that the taxi driver has started the meter when the trip begins (initial fare, 180 pts). There is an official receipt form which upon request the driver must provide you with. If the price of a taxi ride seems excessive, ask for a claim sheet and a receipt, which must include the taxi's license number, the price paid for the service, additional charges if any, the signature and ID number of the driver. ____________________________________________________________________________ Taking the coach service from Barajas airport to Madrid: There are two coach services from the airport to Madrid: lines 101 (Airport <-> Canillejas underground station) and the Special Service (Airport <-> Plaza de Colon). Depending on your next way of transportation, you should choose one or another. Perhaps the better choice is the Special Service. The bus stop is located at "Arrivals" in the airport, and you can take it every twelve minutes between 6:30am to 11:30pm; it costs 380 pts. Once in Colon, you may enter Colon underground service or Recoletos railway station, from where you have a direct service to El Escorial. The regular line 101 has its first stop at the same place, and you can take it every twelve minutes between 7:00am to 10:00pm, and every thirty minutes between 10:00pm and 1:14pm; it costs 380 pts. Once in Canillejas, follow the directions stated under "Taking the underground from Barajas to Madrid" to reach one of the recommended underground stations to make your transfer to another way of transportation (follow the directions stated under "By rail from Madrid" or "By coach service from Madrid"). ___________________________________________________________________________ By road from Madrid: If you rent a car, purchase an insurance to cover all risks and occupants to avoid any further problems. Usually, the rental price only covers responsibility to third parties. The simplest route to EL Escorial is to take the A-6 two-lane motorway leaving at exit 18 (Las Rozas-El Escorial). Once in Escorial town, follow the indications to "San Lorenzo de El Escorial" (where the Monasterio and the Euroforum Infantes building are located). ___________________________________________________________________________ By rail from Madrid: There are services to El Escorial from several of Madrid's main railway stations. There is one train every thirty minutes from "Atocha", "Recoletos", "Nuevos Ministerios", "Chamartin" or "Ramon y Cajal". Just look for c-8 or c-8a lines on these stations. If you take the train from "Principe Pio" (another main railway station in Madrid), first take the c-7 or c-10 lines to "Villalba" and there transfer to either c-8 or c-8a line. In both cases, the train takes over an hour and costs 430 pts. Timetables are available at the following sites: *) trains scheduled before noon: http://www.mn6.com/transpor/tren/c8avl.htm *) trains scheduled after noon: http://www.mn6.com/transpor/tren/c8avf.htm El Escorial railway station is about two km from the Euroforum Infantes building. To reach the Euroforum from the station, take a bus (either line 1 or 2, with a stop in front of the station gate; it costs 125 pts). The bus stops in Plaza Virgen de Gracia, very close to the Monasterio and the Euroforum Infantes building. On the station you can also take a taxi (telephone 91 890 00 15 if there are no cars parked at the taxi stop). ___________________________________________________________________________ By coach service from Madrid: There are two excellent services from Moncloa underground station. Moncloa is located at the end of the #3 subway line and in the #6 line. Once you have arrived Moncloa, the subway exit is on the -2 floor. Go to the -1 floor and look for the "Intercambiador" or "Autobuses" signals; the coach station is located there. Look for the spot #3. Both a 661 or a 664 bus are there usually waiting for passengers every fifteen minutes (but pay attention, only 661 or 664); they take an hour to arrive to Plaza Virgen de Gracia in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, very close to the Monasterio and the Euroforum Infantes building. A single travel costs 405 pts. Unfortunately, the space for luggage is not very big. ________________________________________________________________________ Useful Telephone numbers and addresses: IMACS-ACA Organizing Committee. Then take the M-40 motorway following the A-6 directions, which lead you to the N-VI motorway (on its way to A Corun~a). Once in this motorway, take exit 18 to "Las Rozas and El Escorial". To arrive to Euroforum from El Escorial, just follow either "Monasterio" or "Euroforum Infantes" signals. Parking at Euroforum Infantes costs about 300 or 400 pts, although you can find free park at El Escorial downtown (but pay attention to the blue marks on the floor! It means you have to pay depending on how long your car is there, buying a ticket in a special machine in the street).
