AnaMaria Perez wins top in Mathematics Category at ISEF

Congratulations to AnaMaria Perez of Albuquerque Academy!  She won the top award in Mathematics along with recognition from NSA, Mu Alpha Theta and the AMS at ISEF last week for her project: Classifying magic squares and their symmetries using a chord diagram approach.  She was advised by Professor Dimiter Vassilev on her project, meeting with him most weekends throughout the school year in the Department.

Patricia Oakley win Weber Teaching Award!

Patricia Oakley is the recipient of the William P. and Heather W. Weber Teaching Excellence Award this year. Congratulations!

Full-time lecturer position in statistics!

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico is hiring a full-time lecturer beginning August 2019.

Duties include developing and coordinating two new statistics courses, "Statistical Literacy" and "Statistics for Research", and developing a formal training for statistics teaching assistants. Preference given to candidates with experience implementing and evaluating evidence-based and innovative pedagogy.

Dmitry Panchenko was awarded a 2019 Simons Fellow!

Dmitry Panchenko a UNM PhD graduate (2012, advisor Vladimir Koltchinskii)
and currently a Professor at the University of Toronto, Canada,

UNM-PNM Math contest 2018 news!

The first round of the annual statewide UNM-PNM Math Contest was held from November
2 -4 all over New Mexico. Around 800 students from a number of middle and high
schools (and even some elementary schools) participated in the contest. The grading
session for round 1 was held on November 10, after which approximately 250 students
qualified for the second round. 

The second round will be held at UNM on February
2nd. The contest is being organized by Professors Hongnian Huang and Jehanzeb
