Session on Symbolic-Numeric Interfaces at IMACS-ACA Organizers: Sanjiva Weerawarana (saw@cs.purdue.edu) Paul S. Wang (pwang@mcs.kent.edu) The IMACS-ACA'97 (Applications of Computer Algebra) meeting will be held at the Aston Wailea Resort, Maui, Hawaii on July 24-26, 1997. For information see: http://math.unm.edu/ACA/1997.html The session on symbolic-numeric interfaces will address issues related to integrating the symbolic and numeric computing paradigms in building computational systems for mathematics, science, and engineering. All areas from theoretical issues to applications of integrating symbolic and numeric computing are welcome. A survey of the state-of-the-art which discusses current practice as a tutorial is strongly desired. This session has been assigned a three-hour time slot. This may be allocated as follows: 1 hr for a survey talk + four 1/2 hour talks or simply as six 1/2 hr talks. To be invited to give a talk in this session, send a title and abstract to the session organizers at aca97-sni@cs.purdue.edu There will not be printed proceedings. Accepted papers will appear electronically in the URL of the conference. If the contributions warrant it, publication as a special issue of a journal is a distinct possibility.
