MATH 578, Numerical PDEs

General description

In this course we study the numerical solution of different types of linear PDEs (elliptic, parabolic, hyperbolic). We study basic issues such as stability, consistency, and convergence. We will mainly focus on finite difference methods. We will also briefly discuss finite element and spectral methods. The goal is to provide students with basic skills that can be used to investigate complex physical systems modeled by PDEs.
