TEACHER TRAINING SEMINAR
Preview Seminar 9: Writing a teaching statement

This is just a reminder that you have a teaching statement assignment due next week in the seminar. For this assignment you can do one of three things (1-2 pages):

(1) Write a teaching philosophy

(2) Outline a teaching philosophy

(3) Write a thoughtful statement answering these questions
       I. What is your role?
II. What do you expect from your students?
III. How do you think your students learn, and how can you facilitate learning?
IV. What types of assessment do you use in class, and how do you use them?
       V. What shaped your teaching philosophy?

If you are nominated for the Teaching Award in the future, we highly recommend going to one of the teaching statement workshops. UNMs Office for the Support of Effective Teaching has collected a set of links helpful in preparing teaching statements. They can be found at: http://oset.unm.edu/SupportingDocuments/PIUSS/Resources%20for%20Effective%20Teaching/RET%20files/Teaching%20Portfolios.html

***Also*** If there is anything we did not cover in the previous seminars or anything you would like us to cover in more detail, send either Martha, Dusty or myself an email with what it is you would like us to discuss further and we'll be sure to address it in the final seminar.
