Text: Introduction to Vector Analysis, 7th Edition, by H. Davis and A. Snider

Course Content: Selected sections in Chapters 1-5 of the textbook.

Homework Policy: Problems will be assigned regularly and discussed in class. At least two problems from each assignment will be graded.

Grading Policy: The homework assignments will be such that each problem is worth 5 points. The problems will be due the class period after which they are assigned. Late assignments will not be accepted for grading. There will be a cumulative final which will be worth 300 points, and a series of quizzes which will be worth 25 points apiece. A make-up for a quiz can be arranged if it was missed for a valid reason. The distribution of grades is not determined until the end of the semester. In a typical situation, the final distribution of grades will determine the cutoff point for A's, B's, etc. I can guarantee, however, that if you have a 93 average or better, you will receive an A for the course.

Make-up Policy: Make-up quizzes will be given if a quiz is missed for a valid reason. Valid reasons include illness, pregnancy, family emergency, and active participation in scholarly or athletic events. A reason will be valid only if there is documentation. Invalid excuses consist of oversleeping, hangovers, exhaustion, personal vacations, and other tests during the same week. If a quiz is missed for a legitimate reason, an attempt must be made to contact me by the day of the quiz (preferably before the quiz is given) to let me know of your difficulty. If this attempt is not made, you will not be permitted to make up the quiz. The quiz will be made up at the earliest convenience. If you must miss a quiz due to a prearranged conflict, let me know about it so that we can arrange an alternate quiz date. If I don't find out about the conflict until after you have the missed the quiz, you will not be allowed to make it up.

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Math 264.

Attendance Policy: Your attendance is not mandatory; however, your likelihood of doing well is directly proportional to the number of lectures that you attend. If you decide not to attend, that is your business, but please do not then expect me to be sympathetic to your pleas for help the day before a quiz.

Americans with Disabilities Act: Qualified students with disabilities needing appropriate academic adjustments should contact me as soon as possible to ensure that your needs are met in a timely manner. Handouts are available in alternative accessible formats upon request. Further information can be found here.
