The students did well, were organized, and had planned a great activity. I
personally enjoyed it. Because it was somewhat of a last minute arrangement, the
topic was interesting and engaging, although we had already covered the topic much
earlier in the year. Also, since they came after Senior finals, the students I had
intended for them to meet, the seniors in my mixed class, were no longer here which
was dissappointing. It might be more effective to have your students come earlier
in the semester before teachers are busy with grading and end-of-year chaos and
definitely while our seniors are still in class to benefit. Also, if the visiting
students consulted the teacher on a timely topic and met with the teacher once after
planning their presentation but before the day of, the teacher could discuss with
them possible obstacles and pitfalls.
I think the UNM students were not quite
prepared for the class they encountered,
and the lesson became difficult to implement.
