Title: Some basic results in weighted polynomial Approximation.

Abstract: The existence of weighted Chebychev polynomials for a particular class of weight functions will be shown and conditions for uniqueness will be discussed. Necessary and sufficient conditions on weighted Chebyshev polynomials will be given, extending results of Kolmogorov and Rivlin/Shapiro for the unweighted case. 

About the Speaker: Galen is second-year grad student in pure mathematics at UNM. His previous careers include work in natural language processing and many years as a math and technology teacher and advisor to several math clubs and competition groups in the California Public High School System.
