Pure Mathematics three-year Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning Fall of 2020

Visiting Assistant Professor in Pure Math 2019
 
 
The Department seeks to hire a 3 year Visiting Assistant Professor in Pure Mathematics to begin August 17, 2020.
 
Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interests match those of our current Pure Mathematics faculty. The ability to collaborate and interact scientifically with others is also desirable.
 
The faculty member will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in Pure Mathematics.
We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to diversity through their teaching and research. An interest in mathematics education is a plus.
 
Minimum qualifications:
1.  A  Ph.D. in mathematics by the appointment start date.
 
Preferred qualifications:
1. A strong independent research program and an emerging national/international reputation, or in the case of very junior candidates, expectation of such;
2. A strong commitment to teaching and the expectation of quality teaching ability with an interest in mathematics education;
3.  Expected contributions to research in areas of interest to the Department.  Ability to collaborate and interact scientifically with others.
4.  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Statistics Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position, beginning Fall of 2020
 
 
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for an assistant professor position in any area of Statistics.
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, or a closely related field by the date of hire. UNM is New Mexico's flagship university and is designated both a Minority Serving and an Hispanic Serving Institute. The Department especially encourages applications from individuals belonging to traditionally under-represented groups.
 
The Department seeks to hire for a full-time probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision as an Assistant Professor in Statistics to begin August 01, 2020. The Department expects to hire a specialist in Statistics and is open to various theoretical and methodological approaches, although preference will be given to those candidates who can help expand the groups interactions with other departments and/or local laboratories and industry. The ability to collaborate and interact with others is also desirable.
 
The faculty member will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in Statistics. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to diversity through their teaching, research, and service. Advising graduate students in Statistics is an expectation.
 
The primary assignments are to teach required courses at the undergraduate level such as Introduction to Statistics, Elements of Mathematical Statistics and Probability, as well as more advanced topics in statistics; and to conduct research in the field of Statistics.
Currently, there are not enough faculty in the department to fill this role. Statistics is one of our three graduate curricula and research concentrations and is essential for the mission of the Department and the University.
 
Specifically, preference will be given to candidates as follows:
A. A commitment to establishing a strong research program with an emerging national/international reputation.
B. A demonstrated or potential publication record in recognized premier journals.
C. An interest in research interactions with the Statistics faculty.
D. A commitment to excellent in statistics and probability education at the undergraduate through graduate level.
E. Potential for service to the Statistics Program and Department.
F. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

The University houses Centers for Advanced Research Computing and High Technology Materials, among others, and it is near Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland’s Air Force Research Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, mathematics, statistics, or related area by start date of the appointment. The Department seeks candidates pursuing fundamental research in all areas of applied mathematics, such as, but not limited to, applied and asymptotic analysis, dynamical systems, numerical analysis, optimization, scientific computing, and stochastic processes. Preference will be given to candidates whose work has significant applications in the biological, engineering, or physical sciences and who could foster ties with other units on campus. The Department's current strengths in applied mathematics include numerical analysis, nonlinear waves, high performance computing, continuum and fluid dynamics, biological modeling, uncertainty quantification, multigrid methods, electromagnetics, and classical relativity.
 
Specifically, preference will be given to candidates as follows:
