Event Description:
Title: Computational modeling of plasmas: an (incomplete) overview
Abstract: Plasmas are abundant in nature as well as engineering systems. Areas of interest include astrophysics, fusion energy, manufacturing, and national security. Due to their multiscale nature and complex physics, modeling and simulation of plasmas remains a challenge. Capturing microscale nonequilibrium effects, relativistic velocities, collisions, and interactions with surfaces are among the difficulties. This talk will provide an overview of computational approaches for plasmas and highlight some recent work and open questions in this field.
