Applied Math Seminar: Tin Phan (Los Alamos National Laboratory)
Event Description:
Title: HIV through the lens of mathematics
Abstract: Despite significant advances in therapies that limit transmission and control the progression of HIV, the pandemic remains one of the greatest global health challenges of the 21st century. Mathematics has emerged as a powerful tool in the fight against HIV, providing critical insights that have saved countless lives over the past 30 years. In this talk, I will first review several key historical developments of mathematical models for HIV, highlighting breakthroughs that have shaped our understanding of the virus and its interaction with the immune system. I will then present ongoing efforts to build and validate more sophisticated models of HIV dynamics that account for different treatments and strategies. These works are part of a broader effort toward achieving a functional cure for HIV.
