If you're new to our chapter meetings, this will be a full-day event, running from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Our invited speakers and their talks this year are:

  • Alyson Wilson, NC State, "Demystifying data science"
  • Doug Nychka, CO School of Mines, "Fast methods for conditional simulation, the key to spatial inference"

We are still finalizing the rest of the schedule, but roughly (not including breaks) it will be:

8:30am - 9:00am - Coffee & welcome

9:00am - 11:30am – Invited speakers

11:30am - 1:00pm – Lunch (provided) w/ panel discussion

1:00pm - 1:40pm - Chapter report / business meeting

1:40pm - 3:00pm - Student research competition presentations

3:00pm - 4:00pm - Research presentations by chapter members

4:00pm - 4:30pm - Student research award presentation / Closing

Registration costs for the meeting are:

  • Students – $30
  • Albuquerque ASA Members – $100
  • Non-Members – $120

We will contact you through our chapter PayPal account to collect registration fees after you've registered through the Google form linked above, to streamline invoicing and receipts.

If you're interested in participating in the student research competition or presenting a talk as a chapter member, please email me at <ronald@stat.unm.edu> and I'll let you know if we still have slots available. We're expecting that student research presentations will run 5-10 minutes (lightning talk format), while member talks will be 15-20 minutes (inclusive of questions). We're also looking for new Chapter Officers for the coming year, and are reaching out to a few people who have previously expressed interest in chapter service. If you'd like to be considered in the chapter officers elections at our business meeting, again please reach out to me at <ronald@stat.unm.edu>. (If you want to know why my email is <ronald@stat.unm.edu>, feel free to ask.)

Please share this information around with your friends and colleagues. We're going to need to give our venue a head count of how many people to expect by next weekend (~17 September), so I'm hoping folks will register quickly.

Best,

Fletcher G.W. Christensen
