The award ceremony for the 2022-23 UNM-PNM Statewide Math Contest was held on Saturday April 29th at the SUB. The Department has organized the math contest since 1966 with a couple interruptions. PNM has been a partner since 1997 providing crucial funding for the smooth running of the contest. After 3 years running the conference purely online due to the pandemic, having the second round in February held in person in the SMLC Auditorium was great, the morning started with a very interesting  lecture on "The role of mathematics in studying biological diversity" by Prof. Laura Kubatko from Ohio State University and The Mathematical Biosciences Institute, a former faculty in our Department. The second round exam was held in the afternoon. Graduate students volunteers helped set up and proctor the exam. The coDirectors of the contest this year are Prof. James Degnan and Dr. Mike Heitzman.  As always the ingenuity and creativity of the students leaves us in awe!! Congratulations to all of you for your achievements!

This year Campersand Summer Math Camp has generously donated five full scholarships, the camp will be held at UNM July 24-28, 2023.
