Prof. Emeritus Bill Zimmer died in mid-December. William John Zimmer earned his PhD under Irving Burr at Purdue University (1959) and advised 7 PhD students at UNM.
"Bill came to Sandia in 1959 as a new Ph.D. from Purdue and moved to UNM's Math and Stat department around 1970. I'm not quite sure when he retired but it is unlikely that many of you knew him. Bill was an active researcher working primarily in Bayesian Reliability. He was a great colleague who had wide interests in Painting, Poetry, Film, Dance, Rolfing, and even taught a course called 'Nonviolent Protesting' during the Vietnam War." -Ron Christensen
